The Hunger Games

My friend Hilary recommend this series ( yeah, I know I am little late in the game) to me and I have not been able to put any of the books down. Truth be told I have been reading this past week when I get home from work instead of blogging. I am reading Mockingjay right now and am obsessed. I did not even know a movie was coming out and I just watched the trailer and can't wait to see that. It is a must read. THANKS Hilary!

NIght Circus

I am currently reading The Night Circus which is so amazing that I am making myself take my time. I love to read but have not had much time as of late to do so. I have to read a couple of pages before bed to go to sleep and usually don't get too far before my eyes start hurting. With that being said it takes me forever to get thru a book. I think books are wonderful gifts and Lillian from the beautiful blog Unstitched. has compiled the most charming list of books for every type of girl/reader. You much check it out. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

What I am reading...

I just started reading the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. I saw a quote from the book and decided I needed to read it right away. I am only about 70 pages into it and I already love it. It makes me want to escape to Savannah, throw a party, wander the squares ( that is how the city is laid out) and find some Spanish Moss. I think the name Savannah is a beautiful name for a girl, you could call her Savy for short. Have you read it? There is also a movie...might have to check that out when I am done. Have a wonderful Thursday! June, really is that you...you got here so fast.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Have you guys read the crime trilogy by Stieg Larsson...the first book being, The girl with the dragon tattoo? Man, those three books were awesome, I could not put them down. If only the author was still alive to write more of them. Such an excellent summer read. If you are about to leave for vacation, make sure to pack all 3 books with you. Hollywood is in the process of casting the roles for an American film version of the books. Above is a trailer for the movie that was already made in Sweden. Intense does not even begin to describe these books.

Ohhh. Alex and I saw the movie Salt the other night and lovedddd it!!! You guys must see it!

yuck....

The other day I was listening to NPR and they talked about this website called "I write like". You copy in an example of your writing/blog/tweet into the website and it will analyze your words and tell you which famous writer you write like. I was very excited to see what would come up. My first text results came up with David Foster Wallace...I have no idea who this is and have not read any of his work. So, I decided I would try another sample of text from my blog. Well, the second time...it came up with Stephenie Meyer...I again did not know who this was...then I did a little research...and man...I about cried. The author of Twilight...just kill me. I am not a fan. Granted I have not read the books, but I saw the first movie and that was enough for me. Maybe if I were to read the books, I might feel a little better but right now...I. JUST. DON'T. But wait...maybe I am such a good writer, that one day millions will read my blog. Ok, I feel better.

rainbow books

I think I mentioned this before in a previous post but no matter I will say it again. Most all of mine and Alex's books are in storage and some days come around when I really miss them. Its not that I am going to pick them up and go read them its that when I look at them they bring back memories...like where I was when I was reading it, if I even liked the book and sometimes even what my state of mind  I was in back then. One of my favorite books that I miss is Even Cowgirls get the Blues by Tom Robbins. A good friend gave it to me in college for Christmas and it was a time in my life when I was totally going thru my 1/4 life crisis. She wrote the most wonderful message on the front cover page and I kinda wish I could pick it up and read what she said. Tom Robbins is an outstanding author...he writes in ways that I could only dream of and he is the kind of writer where you copy down quotes and highlight sections.  He writes books that you definitely want to read over again. My friend seemed to know that that book was just exactly what I needed...and that was one of the best gifts that I have ever received. It a wonder how sometimes that happens, you get just the right book at just the right time.
So....how cool are the pictures above?! Using all your books to make art. I love it.

YOU BETTER NOT CRY....BY AUGUSTEN BURROUGHS

I picked up YOU BETTER NOT CRY the other day knowing full well that I was in for a disturbing, hilarious treat. Augusten Bourroughs cracks me up, I have read most of his books. I think Running with Scissors is my favorite. It was so funny and so wrong and I could not put it down. Bourroughs says it like it is and even when its not pretty, which most they are not.  He makes you laugh about it. YOU BETTER NOT CRY asks and tries to answer some of the mysteries of Christmas, like how growing up Bourroughs had a hard time telling the difference between Jesus and Santa. When Joseph and God got thrown into the pot it even got more confusing. I mean if you break it down it is pretty confusing.

Then they had to go throw Joseph at me. Who the hell was Joseph?
It turned out, he was Mary's husband, so that made him the father of Jesus. But I was under the impression that God was Jesus's father. So was Joseph God? Was Joseph also Santa?...
And what about Father Christmas? Explain that one?!
The music of the season further added to my confusion. How was I supposed to tell Santa and Jesus apart when we sang, "He knows when you've been bad or good," when it was Jesus who watched you all the time? And then when we had to sing, "Oh, come let us adore him," which one did they mean? I figured Santa, because it was on his lap we were allowed to sit. I imagined you'd probably get in trouble if you tried to sit on Jesus
So, if you are looking for a holiday read....give YOU BETTER NOT CRY a try!
